pdfs all open with Acrobat Reader DC even if I set the Windows 10 default programme for pdfs to Acrobat 9.0. How can I over-ride this so that they all open with Adboe Reader 9.0 by default? Setting the default in Windows 10 does not achieve this.

Acrobat 9 is not compatible with Windows 10, nor with Reader DC. You should not have both installed at the same time.

Hi try67 - Thanks for your reply. Acrobat 9 works fine with my W10 installation (except when Reader DC overrides it). I need them for different things, and neither one of them can do both these things, so I cannot uninstall either of them.

‌You can't use Adobe Reader 9 and Acrobat Reader DC on one system.

I can. They work fine except for this one little irritating glitch. I would not use them both if one had all the capabilities of the other.

What kind of capabilities?

Reader 9.0 has OCR, insert and delete pages and other things. Reader allows me to complete and submit HMRC forms.

No, Adobe Reader can't do this. You need Adobe Acrobat for this.

Sorry I meant Acrobat. That is what I use for OCR and insert/delete pages.

Try the instructions described here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/not-default-pdf-owner.html
If it's not working you'll just have to live with this issue. Just open the application you want to use manually and then open the file from within it, instead of double-clicking it.

Yes I tried that and Acrobat does actually show as the default application. Unfortunately it doesn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though. I think I might just have to live with it. Would love to know why it happens though.
