How did you add the Bates number? What else did you do with the PDF file after you added the Bates number? Some operations (e.g. optimizing the document) may remove the Bates number meta information, so that Acrobat can no longer determine that certain page content is actually a Bates number.

I have a user who is having this same issue with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5.
She will add bates numbers and immediately after try to remove them, and the above error is generated. No enhancement, no optimization, no modifications, no further actions. Add the bates numbers, try to remove them and they are stuck and they are not recognized.
I ran a repair on the Acrobat Pro and restarted the computer and this same issue is presenting itself. Please advise.

As an update. I tried another action to solve this situation. I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5.
I reinstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 and the different stages of updates until I got to 9.2.0 at which point it finally recognized an automatic update to Pro 9.5.5.
After this gamut of installs and updates, I retested the software. Same problem.
1. I bates stamped a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5.
2. Without closing the document, immediately try to remove the bates numbering by going to Advanced>Document Processing>Bates Numbering>Remove...
3. The result of this command gives the error as stated above: "Adobe Acrobat cannot find any Bates Numbering in this file. If you see Bate Numbering information, it was not added in Adobe Acrobat or by an Adobe PDFMaker, and cannot be detected as such." This is obviously not a true statement as I just created the bates numbering within Adobe Acrobat with the same document open. This is a bug I guess with the metadata not recording how it should.
I am stumped on this bug and what steps need to be taken for the metadata and bates numbering to be recorded within the software correctly. I would highly appreciate it if someone knows a way to deal with this. Thank you!
