"win mail.dat", what's this?

When I send a pdf to others, as an attachment in the body of the email, (it won't attach in the "attachments bar" right below the subject, as it normally did before)  it shows up at the recipients email  as a " win mail.dat" file type, in the email body, which no one can open.  This started ever since the recent update of Adobe Acrobat Reader (on my PC using windows 7 and Outlook), to a new "Acrobat Reader DC" .

How do I avoid this conversion?????

I don't need all the bells and whistles of the toolbars with this new update either. Can I revert back to the old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader?
