Unable to scan from Epson Scan; Epson says issue with Adobe converting scan to PDF?

Using an Epson photo flatbed scanner, I can scan and save jobs as JPGs, but when I try to save as a PDF the program shows the scan in progress box for a few seconds, the scanner makes noise, then the progress box closes itself and the scan job fails/is not saved. This only happens when trying to save as a PDF. I contacted Epson and after troubleshooting, they said the issue is not with them, but with the PDF reader (in this case Acrobat) not converting the scan to PDF. Previously, I was able to scan to PDF.

I have reinstalled Acrobat but still have the same issue. Is this problem truly with Acrobat? I am on Windows 7/latest version of Acrobat.

I had the same problem when I reloaded Windows 7 and the Epson V600 software. I could not save PDF's. I solved the problem by going into the File Saving Settings, making sure PDF was chosen in Image Format, selecting Options in the image format and unchecking Create searchable PDF box under the Text tab.

Hi Cates,

As per the information you shared, it seems you are scanning from scanner utility. And Adobe don't have any stand alone plug-in. So It's not an issue with Acrobat.

You can try 1 thing(If you have Acrobat)

- Install Scanner driver compatibe with your OS(can be downloaded from EPSON's site)

- Open Acrobat

- Go to File> Create > PDF from Scanner

- Select the scanner from scanner dropdown

- Select Default settings

- Scan

You will be able to scan.

Thanks.

If the Epson scanner has no appropriate TWAIN drivers consider saving the scanner's output image as a TIFF (a better choice than JPEG). Scan as black & white image at 300 ppi. Use Acrobat (Pro or Standard) to create PDF from file (the TIFF hopefully - otherwise the JPEG). Before doing this look at Acrobat's Preferences for "create PDF" - - Be sure you understand the configuration options then consider making changes (if desired).

Be well...
