why does closing/reopening tagged file lose tagging in acrobat pro dc?

This is a problem as we are working with a 4600 page pdf and need to export comments periodically, and tagging is a long process to run..When the pdf is saved/closed/reopened normally, it is no longer tagged.

I have been trying to find a solution to this!  I have over a thousand PDF documents in my research library. They are extensively tagged (OpenMeta tags) for quick location and reference.

However, each time I open and close a PDF document in Acrobat Pro DC (Mac), all of the tags and ratings are wiped out by Acrobat!!!

This is unacceptable. I appreciate the capabilities of Acrobat, but it is rendered useless by this brain dead behavior. I'm already test-driving other applications to replace Acrobat. So far, PDFpen Pro seems to be leading the race. At least it doesn't destroy all the work I've put into my documents.

What is up Adobe?!

Open and close a PDF document will not change the document.

I appreciate the prompt response, but my experience (and that of others) has been different. Using the OpenMeta tags and ratings system (also used by Spotlight and many other apps), Acrobat doesn't "play nice."

I have my documents tagged and rated for convenience searching and sorting. When I open a PDF, the save and close it, the tags and ratings are gone.

I have found that I can embed the tags in Acrobat's "keywords" for each file, but that appears to require individual document effort and the keywords are off limits to other apps. I'm hoping to find a work-around or fix for this soon.

Acrobat doesn't change the document when you open and close it.

Repeating something that isn't helpful and doesn't reflect facts isn't helpful. Opening, viewing, saving and closing must do something, because it changes the file date stamp.

In your first posting I see nothing about saving, only open and close.

Forgive me for attempting brevity. I guess I should probably mention that I also view the file on occasion. From the precision of your replies, I'm getting an impression that doing anything with a file -- other than opening and closing -- will cause Acrobat to remove tags and ratings.

Perhaps Acrobat's auto-save feature is in part responsible for this troublesome bug. I don't know, but it seems that Adobe doesn't have the answer and isn't interested in resolving it.  Considering Adobe's prices, one would hope for better service/support.

Yes but have not received anything beyond autoreply. Noting your vast experience I was hopeful you would be able to provide insight toward an effective resolution.

I'll continue to wait and see what Adobe support has to say. At this point I'm contemplating uninstalling and reinstalling, but fear the behavior is hard coded into Acrobat.

Until some resolution appears I'll be using PDF pen Pro as my default app for PDFs. Thanks for your assistance.
