WINDOWS PREVIEW PANE FIXED FINALLY AFTER 8+ YEARS!!! (sort of)

This... Is...Amazing... why did it take so long. I dont know. If you use preview pane to look at pdfs prior to opening you know what I'm talking about. Opening the PDF and editing it meant that when you tried to save it you had to save it as a different filename (throw an x at the end or something) then wait a bit to delete the old file. Overwriting was near impossible.

Why? Because the preview pane is not actually controlled by Windows (except for default apps of course). Applications control the preview pane functionality for their associated file types. Because of the coding of the preview pane for adobe acrobat/reader the file appeared to be "open in another application" when you would try to save your file and force you to save as a different name. There were a ton of workarounds for this all of which sucked. Sometimes they worked and sometiems they didn't (like closing the preview pane view to save the file). The one I found to work the absolute best was to install a completely different pdf application (Foxit Reader), make it the default pdf viewer, then right click a pdf (after the preview pane changed to Foxit's version) and "open with..." then choose adobe acrobat and click always. For some reason this kept the preview pane using Foxit's version but opened pdfs in Acrobat. THANK YOU! The only issue with this is that every time acrobat/reader is updated it overwrites foxit as the default previewer and I have to repeat the steps above.

The reason I said (sort of) is that it appears I still have to sometimes click on a different file to "remove" the file I'm working on from the preview pane and it will save/overwrite. This is still a huge step forward, because before this, I had to wait a couple minutes for it to be "released" from the system even after clicking off the file. Could this be the start of not having to install TWO pdf editors/readers just to use acrobat? sigh... I hope so. !
