Acrobat XI freezes when printing to Adobe PDF

I have adobe XI pro PC with Windows 10, often when printing to PDF file, after giving it a file name, a window appears and progress to 3 vertical bars and then freezes and never comes back.  Problem might be with drives for Windows 10, but could find drive updates for Adobe Acrobat XI pro (full version, read and write).  Any solution is appreciated.

Try to follow the below mention steps and see if that fixes the issue:

1- Check if there is an update available for Acrobat, launch Acrobat>navigate to Help menu>click on Check for updates. If there is an update available, download and install it and then launch Acrobat and see if its working fine.

2- Try to run Acrobat with Admin rights, locate Acrobat shortcut on desktop>right click>and select Run as Administrator and try to perform the same task.

3- If that doesn't work, try to disable protected mode , launch Acrobat>click on Edit menu>select Preferences>click Security (Enhanced)>select Off under Protected View>OK.

I would like to mention here that disabling Protected Mode is for troubleshooting purpose only, and not recommended, please turn the feature back on after finishing the troubleshooting.

4- If step 3 doesn't work, try to restore Acrobat preferences:

  Close Acrobat XI.

   (ii) Go to C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0.

   (iii) Move the entire 11.0 folder to some other location like temp folder .

     To view temp folder, press and hold Windows key and press R on your keyboard, type temp in the run dialogue box then press enter.

      If App data folder is not visible under your user name, launch Windows Explorer, select View in the top left corner>select Options in the top right corner>click on View tab>check the radio button which says Show hidden files, folders, and drives>click Apply and OK.

   (iv) Restart Acrobat again and see if its still freezes when printing to pdf.

Could you please let me know the version of Acrobat XI Pro installed on the machine?

To check the version of Acrobat, launch Acrobat>navigate to Help menu>select About Adobe Acrobat XI Pro

Thanks for your help. I tried all 4 steps you recommend. It still does

the same thing. After step 4, it would stop without giving any vertical

bars, but after restarting the computer it progress to 3 bars and then

stopped. However, during this process a notepad screen appeared and stated

that adobe could not find several fonts. It appears when it is trying to

convert a non-pdf file, mostly from the web (this morning I tried to print

the following page to a pdf file

http://www.explainthatstuff.com/diesel-engines.html) to a PDF, it stopped.

It might be adobe does not recognizes some of the web site fonts as a

result adobe is waiting to find the font). I am not sure if there is a

features that can be turned on or off to correct the situation. I also

tried to screen print the screen, but Windows 10 would not print it.

Hi: I right click on the screen, click on "print", the following print

screen opens,

on top of the screen for printer I chose Adobe PDF for printer, click on

"print" button at the bottom of screen. The following screen opens,

I pick up a folder where the file to be stored and give it the file name.

Then click on “save”. The following screen opens

which states “Creating Adobe PDF” at the very top. Below it is a line

“Document Name” with a window showing the document name. Below that is a

line “PDF Progress” below it says “Ready”. If it works, it will fill the

window below the “ready” line with blue line sometimes to the end and then

start at the beginning again and fill the window with blue vertical line

again, then the window will close and will return a message something like

your PDF file was created successfully. However, for cases when it does

not work, the window for vertical line usually progresses to 3 vertical

blue lines and then stops or sometimes does not show any vertical blue

line, as the case is for the above, and stops with blank window.

I am not able to see any attachment in your reply. Assuming you are using Google Chrome and want to print to Adobe PDF from there, you might try the following steps and see if it works.

1- Launch Acrobat>select Create>click PDF from Web Page>copy paste the URL of the website for which you want to create pdf>select Create.

2- Try to create PDF by clicking on the Adobe PDF toolbar. select Adobe PDF tool in the top right>select Convert webpage to PDF.

I am having the same problem as of recently when printing form Microsoft Edge.  Switching to print the same page from Internet Explorer is a temporary fix.

More concerning is that I am having similar problems saving PDF files (printing) from Lacerte (from intuit).  This leads me to believe the problem is not simply a web browser issue.  It is more likely a driver conflict of some kind.  I tried restarting the print spooler service a few times while it gets hung up with no luck.

Multi-workstation environment, these saving PDF's issue are not limited to a single workstation in our case.

The Adobe PDF printer is very dependant from the OS. As there have been some big updates with Windows 10 recently, it is very possible that the version of Acrobat XI you are using is outdated. Even if Acrobat still works, that does not keep the printer driver working. Acrobat XI is no more supported, so there will be no updates.
