can I turn on/off protected mode without restart acrobat reader

I want to turn on/off protected mode when adobe reader is opening. It there API for that. But I don't want to restart acrobat reader again.

No there is no API to do that. To have an API to turn it off would be a security weakness, a terrible bug making the whole thing pointlesss.
