Can English pdf documents be saved or exported to other languages (Italian specifically)?

Not possible with Adobe products.

More specifically, there are no automatic language translation facilities in Acrobat.

Besides the obvious issues of language translation itself, the process implies the ability to re-layout content due to differences in text length and to deal with the problems of existing fonts in the document that may not have the glyphs necessary to express all characters of the language you are translating to. And of course, translating from a left-to-right to a right-to-left language further complicates this problem.

No other Adobe products supply any automatic translation facilities either, although they do support re-layout that comes with differing text lengths and directions.
