Hi Adobe people,

We have a small issue using adobe pdf printer with Microsoft office product.

Every time when we try to convert word or excel files into pdf document using adobe pdf printer, it took a long time and freezes the office programs.

It pops up with Connecting printer or Accessing printer message and freeze the programs for couple of seconds to more than 2-3 minutes sometimes and came back. It happens as soon as we select adobe pdf printer from printer option and have to wait for a bit and happens again when we press print.

It happens to all of our machines which recently rebuilt and installed the latest version so was just wondering if it is the issue with a new version or new driver for adobe pdf printer.

We are using Adobe Acrobat Standard DC with 2015 release version 2015.006.30505 and Microsoft Office both Monthly channel and Semi-Annual. (Since it happened on both version, I don't think it is the Microsoft Office programs)

Any idea?

Thanks

I resolved by uninstalling the latest ‘Security Update for Adobe Flash Player’ from Windows Updates. The PC is Windows 10 v1909. Ref to other Adobe forum article: https://tinyurl.com/y2kqnzjs 'Printing to "Adobe PDF" printer from excel and word.'.

Hi there

We are sorry for the trouble. As described Adobe Acrobat standard DC freezes on using Adobe PDF printer to create the PDF files MS Office products.

We need some more information for a better understanding:

  • Are you on a Windows or Mac machine and what is the version of the OS?
  • Are the files locates locally on the computer or present on a shared network drive? Please download the file to your computer locally and try to create the PDF and check.

Also, try creating PDF file as follows and check if the application still freezes:

  • Right Click on the MS Office file > Conver to Adobe PDF and check
  • Use the Acrobat ribbon present in the taskbar on the top in the MS Office products and select create PDF.
    create PDF.jpg

  • Open Acrobat Std DC > File > Create > PDF from File and check

Hi Amal,

Thanks for your reply.

For the information you required as below.

  • Are you on a Windows or Mac machine and what is the version of the OS?

- It's Windows 10 Pro 1909 and 1903 version. We have updated to the latest version to see if it works but still got the same issue.

  • Are the files locates locally on the computer or present on a shared network drive? Please download the file to your computer locally and try to create the PDF and check.

- It doesn't matter where the file is located. Tried from both local or network drives but has got a same issue.

I have tried to use the button or save as adobe pdf option and it seems working ok and didn't have freeze issue but the reason we want to use print option is that we need to convert the documents with only certain pages. From print option, we can select the pages we want but not from save as or create pdf option. To delete pages after converting it gives us another extra steps to work so it could not be an ideal.

Thanks,

Damian

Hi there,

We are sorry for the experience. As described you want to convert the documents with only certain pages.

Please try to update the application to the new release available version 15.006.30508. Go to Help > Check for Update and see if that makes any difference For more information please use the help link (https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html).

Also, try to reset preferences to default as described in the help article here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792...

Let us know how it goes

Since Winodws 10 update to v1903, I've been forced to use Cute PDF as Microsoft Print to PDF has failed. Neither Microsoft, Adobe or Dell had been able to resolve this probelm for the last 6 weeks. Simple solutions were suggested such as turning off (then on) Microsoft Print to PDF from Programs / Windows functionality and and performing an In-Place upgrade of WIN10. Nothing helped. Yesterday Dell issued a newer BIOS-UEFI update which fixed the probelm instantly. I've wasted weeks on this problem. It feels like I'm an unpaid beta tester, but I'm pleased it's now fixed.

Sorry to inform you that you are very wrong. In fact, you are not an unpaid beta tester but you are a negative paid beta tester.

You have to pay Adobe to buy Acrobat to be the beta tester.
