Acrobat tab missing from MS Word

Guest

My colleage tried to create a PDF out of MS Word doc last week but MS Word crashed. She was asked to disable the PDFMaker plug-in from MS Word to solve the issue. After they did that, Word automatically recovered. However, the Acrobat tab was not displayed. She tried to add the plug-in back through Word Options>Add-Ins> COM Add-ins but the Acrobat tab was still missing. Both of them were running Office 2007 on Windows 7 (64b).

This week, after I upgraded my system to Windows 7 ((64bit)) and MS Office to Office 2010, I had the similar issue (Word crashed, Acrobat tab missing, and add-in failed to add back). Then I tried all methods listed here: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdfmaker-unavailable-office-2007-office.html, but the problem wasn’t solved.

Adobe has not formally tested Acrobat 9 software with Microsoft Office 2010 applications, and does not certify the behavior of using the two programs together.

Office 2010 (64-bit) is currently not supported.

Hi,

What version of Acrobat are you using?

The Acrobat X PDFMaker is designed to run in 32-bit versions of Microsoft Office applications.

Please check if you are using a 32 bit MS Offcie or 6 bit.

I am using Acrobat 9 on 64-bit MS Office 2010. Is there a compatibility problem?

You may be alright if you reinstall OFFICE, 32-bit. I think both the 64 and 32-bit versions are available. A later release of AA X was needed for 64-bit systems and versions of OFFICE. As for AA9, it can only be used for printing with OFFICE 2010. The OFFICE 2010 and AA9 PDF Maker are not compatible. You may also used the MS PDF plugin as well, but it has it's own problems.

The following worked for me, deleting the add-in and adding again:

Office 2010 (Acrobat X and Acrobat XI only)

  1. Open the Microsoft Office 2010 application.
  2. Click the blue File menu (in the upper-left corner). Click the Options button. Choose Add-Ins in the list on the left side of the Options window.
  3. Choose COM Add-ins in the Manage pop-up menu at the bottom of the Options window or the Trust Center window.
  4. Click Go.
  5. Look for Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Add-In in the list.
  6. Select Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Add-In. Click Remove.
  7. Click Add and navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat [9.0 or 10.0]\PDFMaker\Office. Select PDFMOfficeAddin.dll. Click OK. Then close and reopen the Office 2010 application.
