The Adobe web site reports that Acrobat X worked in Windows 7 at the time support was stopped. The info will never be updated. Windows 7 has kept changing in small ways. But strangely, this seems to be a bug in Acrobat, which was fixed many years ago.

Try 10.1.16. https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotes/10/10.1.16.html

Which Windows version are you running?
Acrobat X is certified only up to Windows 7, and both have already been support end.
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/system-requirements-old-versions.html

You should take this opportunity to introduce Acrobat DC subscription.

It's true that support has ended.
So the best option is to move to a current supported environment.
It is at your own risk that you will be working in that environment.

As it looks, acrobat x pro no longer starts with the new Windows 10 version 2004. Are there any other experiences? Does anyone have a solution? - on Win10 Version 1909 acrobat X pro runs without any problems.

Ah well, you've been in the last chance saloon for years now, and your luck has run out.  Probably for the good, no company should be running unfixed vulnerable software, but the UI changes in Acrobat DC have held back some.

The problem is that the current version of Acrobat DC is only available in an expensive subscription. But I don't need Acrobat too often to want to pay that much. So I was thankful for an outdated, inexpensive solution. - Do you know about good alternatives that can do roughly the same thing? (Merge PDF, OCR in PDF, small text changes in PDF ...)

I found some alternatives, but unfortunately not with the same scope that acrobat offers. That answers my question, thanks.
