Adding mp3 file - I don't get audio player controls

I add an MP3 file to a PDF, have it set to play on click. However, the controls don't appear. All I get is a big play button, but then there are no controls at the bottom to pause etc. I'm using Acrobat Pro DC v2021.

This is not a bug, it is "by design".

Why would this be 'by design'. Why would you want to have any media playing where you can only play - and not be able to pause, skip ahead etc? I don't know any other type of software where this would be normal.
