ADOBE Acrobat Reader DC won't activate hyperlinks

Hi 🙂  I subscribed for the free 7 day trial for ADOBE Acrobat DC.  I have hyperlinked social media icons and these work in Microsoft word.  However, when I save the file as a PDF, the social media icon hyperlinks do not work, despite the DC download.  When I hover over the Acrobat icon at the bottom of my screen, it tells me that it is 'ADOBE Acrobat Reader DC' (see screenshot below) and then when I go into the PDF file to edit it, it takes me to the screen to subscribe for DC (see screenshot below) and then tells me I already own it (see screenshot below).  I have closed down and reopened to see if that works but it doesn't appear to be.

Can you please help me?

Thank you so much! Nadine 🙂

Hi Nadine,

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble and the confusion. As described, you have created a PDF from Word and the hyperlinks in PDF don't work when you open the PDF using Reader.

It looks like you are getting confused between the two applications :

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader DC application. Acrobat Reader DC is a freeware application with limited functionality it is used to view, read and annotate the PDF file. For more information please look at the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/in/reader/faq.html
  • Adobe Acrobat DC (Paid service) on the other hand is used to create, edit , export PDF to other format and much more. Please look at the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/faq.html for more information.

I have checked the account details with the email you are using on this community and found that you have a subscription for Adobe Acrobat DC (Paid service).

Please close the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC application on your computer and download the Acrobat DC application using the link https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html  and login to the application using the Adobe ID /Email used for subscription.

Saving the Word file to PDF is Microsoft process of creating PDF files. Please try to create the PDF using Adobe Acrobat DC (Paid service) application and see if that helps with the hyperlinks. For more information about creating PDF from MS Word using Adobe Acrobat DC please look at the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/how-to/create-pdf-files-word-excel-website.html

For information about creating hyperlinks please look at the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/using/links-attachments-pdfs.html#create_a_link

Hope this information will help

Regards

Amal
