blackening textparts deletes all content

I try to blacken parts of a text in a pdf document.

I can mark the parts.

when I tell the application to apply my choice all content disapears and only the black bars remain.

I just switched from CS6 to CC2020.

Things like that worked perfectly up to now.

Is it a bug or did I oversee something.

I need to use this function very often and need a solution.

Thanks in advance to anyone to takes some time to think about my problem.

Does this happens with all PDF files?

I happens with pdf files crated with the print-dialog / save as pdf dialog (i.e. online banking receipts which definitely has to be blackened before emailed 😉 but not with pdfs exported from indesign or illustrator.
