Checkboxes are printing with different size "squares" even though font size and checkbox fields are the same sizes. Any ideas?

Checkboxes look fine when I create them as usual but they are PRINTING differently from each other (some smaller, some larger). I've checked the field size (they are all the same) AND the font size (all the same) and I'm out of ideas. Have tried printing on different printers in difference locations. Same problem appears. Help is appreciated.

Hi Maidaland,

If I got your description correctly, you have got a form with multiple fields including Checkbox. However, while printing the form check boxes are printing in a different size, even though the field size and font size are same?

The above scenario seems to be a form specific. You may try the following suggestion-

  • Open a different PDF that has check box and try printing that
  • While printing PDF form, what is the Page Sizing that you have selected? Set to "Fit" and see the result.
  • If this happen with multiple PDFs then update your Acrobat to the latest version. Navigate to Acrobat>Help>Check for update and update printer drivers too.
  • For better understanding, please share the file with us, we would test the same at our end and and see whether issue is reproducible or not.

To clarify:

1. Boxes filled in differently (with the "square" checkmark) on the SAME page. 

2. Everything looks fine on the PDF (they look like the top half of the attached) -- it's only when it's PRINTED that the checkboxes look different  (note differences in how the boxes fill in).

3. I print "actual size".

4. I have checked the size of the checkbox fields (they are the same) and the font size (automatic).

5. My Acrobat DC is the latest version. No updates available.

I didn't see the email address shared via private message so I didn't feel comfortable attaching the file here. Where should I have seen that?

I am sorry, but I do not see a way to just attach a document here and I am not authorized to post these jobs online myself. I did receive the client's permission to send files to you -- how can I do that? Help, please. This process is taking a worrisome long time.

I was just having this issue.  I fixed it by selecting the check box and right-clicking to get to the properties.  I then changed the font size from auto to a specific font size, and it fixed it for me.
