Hi! - I have a PDF that I want to be able to read on-screen, but whenever I open it, it automatically shunts me to a print dialog box. No matter what I do -- close the dialog box, print the document (part or all), immediately thereafter the document closes. So it is essentially unavailable on-screen. Given that I cannot otherwise access the file, is it possible to deactivate the auto-print feature? I've even tried printing it to another PDF (no go) and printing to an XPS file and converting that back into a PDF (turned it into gibberish). Distiller won't open the file, either. Please help! Thanks so much for any advice!

There's probably an embedded document-level script that does that.
After opening the file, go to Advanced, Document Processing, Document
JavaScripts and if there are any scripts there, delete them.
Re-save the file, enable JavaScript and try to re-open it.

Repair your Acrobat installation.

Are you opening the file by double-clicking or using the File-Open dialog box. My suggestion is if you have been double-clicking to try the File-Open dialog box. If that doesn't work try, turning off Javascript before opening. Perhaps there is a script running in the file.

Ah -- OK! Turning off Javascript enables me to open the document, close the print dialog box, but not have the document close thereafter -- instead, a yellow bar appears above the document informing me that the document uses Javascript. That's good...but now, how do I strip the document of it's desire to always open the print dialog box upon opening? Is that possible?

That would probably work...but I've discovered that the document is also copy-protected, so I can't alter it in any way. My final solution: print the darned thing, then rescan it into a new PDF. >>>SIGH<<< Thanks to everyone for all their help!
