Footnote error (size 1pt font) generated when converting to PDF from Word

I'm experiencing the same issue as this user here with a few exceptions:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/footnote-codes-appearing-help/m-p/9016103?page=1

1. our files are not graphics-heavy

2. it is not crashing Word

3. we are not using "Print to PDF."

Our organization has found this with one of our users' machines:  when the PDF is generated (usually from "File"-->"Save As"-->selecting "PDF" from the file type dropdown), size 1pt font of "XF" are generated beneath each footnote.  (If it's relevant, the "X" in that equation is always the number of the footnote minus one.  Meaning, footnote 6 would have "5F" beneath it in 1pt font.  At 100%, it looks only like a smudged period...

The problem is that it does not consistently happen; we have thought we have fixed it a few times, or that the issue has resolved itself, but eventually it comes back.

Any idea as to the underlying cause/reason?

Hi Embee

We are sorry for the trouble. As described you are getting the footnote issue as its adds the number and the letter to it when converting PDF from Word.

Are you trying to save the file as PDF from the MS Word? If yes, please try to save it as Adobe PDF. As saving the Word file as PDF is a MS Word process of creating PDF.

You may also try cto create the PDF from the Acrobat Ribbon present in the tool bar in MS Word and see if that makes any difference. Also, try to create the PDF from the Adobe Acrobat File menu > Create > PDF from file.

You may also take a look at the help article https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/how-to/create-pdf-files-word-excel-website.html and see if that helps.

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal
