Highlighter broken

The update "broke" the highlighter again! It's now highlighting an entire section rather than a line at a time. This is an extremely required tool for my line of work. I fixed it before and it has worked fine for months, now it's broken again and I don't recall what the steps are for fixing it. I don't want to print document, highlight, and scan. It's not only going backwards, it's wasteful of resources. Help please.
