We were sent file and they placed bates number over another previosly added bates.  I see I can manaually select one bats and move it but can I do the same across all pages for that series of bates in this same document?  I want to avoid having to do it manualy.

It depends on how it was added. If using the built-in command then you can't update it. Remove the old numbers and then re-apply them in the desired location. If it was done using form fields or comments then it is possible, although complicated, as it requires a script.
