Are you sure you are using the touchup text tool and not the text edits tool? Sounds like it's marking it for deletion. The text edits tool is for commenting only.

You can also use the text touchup tool and simply mark the text to delete and hit delete. Be sure to use Save As and not Save to get rid of what you delete.

Interesting...sorry but i cannot get to do it right. I do use the touchup tool, select text, hit Delete and the word has a red line crossed. I thought it was only a functional display of showing the text is deleted but when i save as with another name I still get the word with the red cross and the web link is still active.

Why is that? What am i doing wrong?

That's because there's no such tool in Acrobat, only for Pencil-type comments. There is a redaction tool, though.
