I am having trouble figuring out if I can allow successive saves from multiple user on the same fillable form.
Here is the ideal scenario: User 1 creates new copy of a form with new data and saves to /forms. User 2 opens this form from the folder /forms and fills out some fields, saves and closes. User 3 three then opens the same file and fills out more fields. After User 3 is done, User 1 fills out some last fields and the file is now complete.
The current problem is that everytime a suvvesive user opens the file, they are forced to "Save as" a new file name to begin saving their work. When they try to just "Save as" the same file name, they get this response:
"The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user maybe have it open..."
For many reasons I do not want to make a new copy of these files every time the next user works on it.
The issue still occurs when I save the file as "Reader Extended." Is there a security setting that I am missing or is this kind of collaborative work not allowed with Acrobat?

Hi sweber_tcm
We are sorry for the trouble. As described you are not able to save the PDF and getting the error 'The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user maybe have it open'
We need some more information for a better understading:
What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Adobe Acrobat DC and make sure you have the latest version 20.009.20074 installed.Go to Help > Check for Updates.
Are you on Mac or Windows machine and what is the version of the OS? If you are on Windows 10, please try the troubleshooting steps provided in the help article https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/unable-to-save-pdf-windows-10.html and see if that works for you.
You may also take a look at the similar discussion listed below and see if that helps:
Keep us posted with the result
