Hi,

I have token which contains digital signature with SHA384 ECDSA (elliptic curve) encryption algorithm.

I am trying to sign pdf on adobe acrobat reader dc also adobe acrobat reader dc pro versions with this token bu after entering the PIN code, I get the following error message:

Error Code: 2148532258

"This smart card does not support the requested feature."

But in adobe's web site, it says that it supports elliptic curve algorithm

https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/DigSigDC/standards.html

Does anyone have any ideas? I am a newbie to understand or solve such problems, so can anyone give brief description?

you mentioned about token, are you on a macOS computer?

I believe this was answered last month by an Adobe employee.

I will find that thread and post it for you here.

Error Code: 2148532258

"This smart card does not support the requested feature."

The error above doesn't really suggest that this issue  is generated from the Adobe Acrobat program. Seems to be related to the smart card itself.  That said, are you able to use this smart card successfully with other programs when you apply the digital signature to a document  with that certificate?

If it is only happening with Adobe Acrobat Pro DC or Adobe Reader DC, the I must ask if you're importing the security settings for the signer's identity from a file or from a server?

If YES, look in the same link that you posted as a reference the following section:

Also, see this other section to identify if the certificate is getting the correct publick key hash:

Last, can you please provide the brand and model of the smart card reader and the type of smart card that you're having the issue with?

It may be possible that the smart card reader needs its drivers updated. That is some guidance I read in a Microsoft support forum for another user with the exact same error as yours.

However, if this is a government issued smart card, I believe that the most important detail(s) are found on this page:

Verify if you have a smart card identified in the list of cards that won't work. If it is, then the smard card need to be updated.

This is the thread that I was referring about in my prior reply:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/cac-certificates-not-recognized-after-mac-os-patch-24-sep-202...

It applies to a user with macOS but it may be relevant to figure out additional troubleshooting.

Using the same smart card and certificate, I can sign in Foxit Reader, Microsoft Word and PDF Signer applications without any problems.

The smart card I use is TUBITAK AKIS and my card reader is ACS ACR39U

I have checked the list of cards that are not working, the smart card I am using is not listed.

You're the second user that I've seen with this same issue with those certificates in Acrobat in about a 2-3 month period.

I am thinking if this is a trust management issue. That said, if you go to EDIT ---PREFERENCES---TRUST MANAGER --- >>>  see the sections "Automatic Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL) updates and "Automatic European Union Trusted Lists (EUTL) updates.

What happens if you check the tick box "Load trusted certificates from an Adobe AATL server and click on "Update Now"?   Would that make any difference?

Could you please expand the details of the SmartCard certificate. I would like to see which Elliptic Curve was specified.

There has been a new development.

A different setting was described by my digital signature provider. When I apply these settings, the adobe reader dc goes into unresponsive mode and crash while signing.

Can you have a comment about this?

I think you'll need to contact Turktrust customer care.

I checked their support page here : https://turktrust.com/en/repository/root-certificate-installation-and-CRLs/

And it seems like there are six different levels of this type of certificate. I noted in that page that they do provide a specific guidance on which certificate store these certificates need to be installed for users with MS Windows.

They also mention about updating JAVA see all the required tools that they recommend for the setup here: https://turktrust.com/en/help/required-software/

I can sign on different PDF reader applications with in the same computer, same settings and with same certificate.

I also realize that in different pdf applications I can sign pdf with theese certificates and when this file opened in adobe, ıt verifies the signature. I think there is no defect in verifiying the signature but in signing, it seems it has.

I also realize that in different pdf applications I can sign pdf with theese certificates and when this file opened in adobe, ıt verifies the signature. I think there is no defect in verifiying the signature but in signing it has. I also wrote to company, TURKTRUST, they tried and found that in other applications they could sign pdf, but again in Adobe they couldn't. So they pointted me to Adobe again.

In the article on this link (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/kb/collect-logs-crash-freeze.html), I learned how to get a log file when acrobat reader crashes. According to this post, I managed to get a log file when the acrobat reader crashed during digital signing. If you want to review, you can access the log files I received from the link below.

As a user, I am responsible to my customers whom want to use this company's certificate, So I need a solution but I got stuck

Interesting, I think you'll need to reach out to an Adobe employee. Hopefully one of them will swing by this post and share some insights.

In the meanwhile try by contacting Adobe Customer Service:  https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

Phone: 1 (800) 833-6687

I am checking the crash logs.
