Importing a font

I need to work on a specific font - namely Frutiger - which isn't available within Acrobat.  Is it possible to import it?

You don't need to import fonts into Acrobat; it doesn't really have any fonts. You just need to purchase fonts, and install them in Windows or Mac, then Acrobat will pick it up.

You can't import it into Acrobat directly, but if you install it on your computer it should appear there, if its permissions allow it to be used in this way.

What are you trying to do?

If you create a document in (say) Word with Frutiger, and then generate a PDF out of that document, it will have Frutiger imbedded in the PDF. 

If you're trying to create a document within Acrobat, you're making a fundamental mistake in document creation. 

Does that make sense?
