Impossible Font Problem

I've exhausted google searches, third party programs and all options that are within my control so I come extremely frustrated to the internet. I spent an hour on the phone with an Adobe representative who at the end of the conversation concluded that they could not help me. The company I am paying for a subscription claimed defeat (case number: 0188571964).

I have a simple PDF document (designed on Illustrator) that I need my fellow staff to edit on occasion. Our company uses the font Oswald for all of our branding across the board. It's a free google font with no licensing to worry about. Now, when it comes to edit these documents on Acrobat, I am only able to access the font Oswald proper. I am not able to access the other font family types: Oswald Light and Oswald Dark. The Oswald Light is one that I need to access to so I can maintain continuity across all documents.

I do not understand the following: if the font I used on Adobe Illustrator is working on Illustrator AND on photoshop, why does it not appear on Acrobat?

Why is this happening?

How do I fix it?

I've tried renaming the font. I've tried screwing around with the font's metadata. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the font, Acrobat and pretty much my entire computer. At any rate, it's driving me up a wall. Any and all advice would be welcome. If you live in Toronto and you fix this for me, I'll buy you lunch. Not a joke offer.

hi,

when you saving your ai file to pdf you see your pdf settings window.

There's a info about subsetting fonts in Advanced tab on the right.

change 100% to 0% - in this case all font family should be embedded not only used glyphs.

If pdf isn't for print in printing house will recommend to save in acrobat 1.6 version.

Try and let us know is it works or not.

In many cases it solved my similar issues.

Hi Joel,

I've just spent a few days trying to solve a problem related with Oswald and Acrobat, not exactly the same as yours but might give some indications.

I use Oswald Light for some professional documents that I edited in Powerpoint and Word, then saved as PDF. Although there was no problem displaying the documents (in PDF or Preview (Mas OS X) for example), every time I tried to print the documents they would jam the printers (printers would "receive" data but never print them, blocking the printers - I tried this several time), as if Acrobat, when doing the conversion from the PPT or Word document, would "bug" them because of the font (I tried with different fonts and it worked fine, the only problem was with Oswald Light). The version I use is Acrobat Reader DC (Version 15).

Now, I have tried the exact same thing on another Acrobat version (Version 11) and it works completely fine.

Therefore, I wonder whether the newer version of Acrobat doesn't work well with Oswald Light. You may want to generate your pdf document and edit them with earlier versions of Acrobat to see whether it works?

Hope this helps!

I found one work around when having issues converting word file to PDF. Open the document. then click export, click Create PDF/XPS Document, then click Create PDF/XPS in the box to the right. Worked to preserved layout, formatting, fonts and images, every time. Maybe this will help lead you in a direction for the rest. Mitzi
