I am trying to print a large pdf file that I downloaded from a website.  Many of the pages are printing junk characters in the text.  What is happening and how can I fix this problem?

Hello Jamess,

We apologize for the inconvenience caused, as per the description above, when printing a PDF, you are getting junk characters in the PDF, Is that correct?

You get junk characters or gibberish fonts if the fonts are not embedded or they are not available in your system,

Try the following steps:

  1. Click on Print.
  2. Select Adobe PDF as Printer.
  3. Click on Properties/Preferences.
  4. Uncheck the box next to Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts.
  5. Select OK.
  6. Save the PDF.
  7. Try Printing the PDF again.

Check if this brings any difference.

You can also refer and try the suggestions from the following Adobe discussions Printing Gibberish
