Large blinking cursor

I saved an online chat as a PDF and need to redact some of the private data, but when I try to select a line or word, the cursor automatically selects a giant box that redacts the entire box creating a giant black box over the page. I have Adobe Acro Pro. How can I fix?

I can use edit to select and strike over words, but can't redact words.

As per the description if i understand correctly, then you are willing to redact some words in a PDF file. However, it selects the entire box with lots of content. Is that right?

Acrobat DC's redact feature works pretty well. If you have a PDF with full of rich text it should work for you too. Such issues may exist with the scanned document or image.

We'd like to know more about the file you have been working with.

1- How exactly you have created the PDF file? Was it using Acrobat DC or 3rd party plugin.

2- Since you own Acrobat DC, then Create PDF from Acrobat DC.

3- For better understanding, please share the screenshot of file while redacting.

Thank you, Akanchha. To redact within the chat with Tracfone....
I found out that if I use EDIT first to select a word, then I can use
REDACT to redact the word.
In other documents downloaded from the Web, I am able to redact a word
without using EDIT first.
I conclude that I'll just have to use the EDIT tool plus REDACT tool in
order to redact a word from the saved chat file.
