Losing formatting converting from Word

I am on MacOS 10.13.6 using Word for Mac 16.43 to convert a 2 column White Paper document to PDF. I am opening Pro DC ver: 2021.001.20142.  I know, Word not InDesign, but for this task, Word was actually good enough 🙂

My issue is that my document has URLs and when I use the Create and Share Option on the Word ribbon OR Save As PDF from the file menu, if I select the option "Best for electronic distribution", my links are preserved but my format is destroyed. There is some weird font substitution and the column formats break so the 8pp becomes 13pp.  If I choose "Best for Printing", my formatting is maintained - e.g. it looks like it should - but the URLs are removed.  I can add the URLs again manually in Acrobat Pro but it's a bit painful.

Is there a way to export a doc from Word, keeping both formatting and URLs?
