I am having an issue where Acrobat lists HelveticaNeueLT typefaces (which are OTFs on my PC) as Type 1. Has anyone else been seeing this type of listing for OTF typefaces?

Depending upon what software embedded the font and when, there should be effectively no difference in results in your PDF file. The outlines for Type 1 and OpenType CFF fonts are exactly the same.

Other than visually what you see when listing the fonts, is there any real problem that you are encountering?

Thanks, Dov, no. The application is FrameMaker 2019 (and 2020) I just need to be able to explain to others on my team that Acrobat lists some typefaces as Type 1, and that it's other applications that will continue to move away from Type 1 typefaces.
