Paper Size Error

New Here ,

Hello. Could you please help me solve this? My Acrobat DC Pro is erroneously displaying scripts that I made with Final Draft as Legal Size. The people at Final Draft said I should talk to Adobe about it since on their side they see the document displayed as U.S. Letter Size in both apps.

Acrobat shows pages the size they are. If they are shown the wrong size, they were made that way. How exactly do you make your PDF from your Final Draft script?

The Final Draft app makes the pdfs somehow. The FD people told me to check the FD settings for Paper Size and I found that they were U.S. Letter (as they should be). They also said they viewed the files from their side and both the fdx and the pdf were both U.S. Letter size. But when I open the pdf it's displayed as Legal size.

To be precise, I can't say if it's Legal or not until I shrink it with the minus key so the entire page will fit on my screen. Could it be that the shrinkage is not keeping the dimensions (proportions) locked?

Ah, you might be getting the wrong conclusions from your symptoms. To check the page size, use File > Properties and the general tab. The size is shown at the bottom of the Properties.

I checked that. It says 8.27 x 11.69 which is actually not Legal but A4. But it should be Letter. What now?

Go back to the application where you created the file and check its settings.

Just did that. It was set as Paper Size: U.S. Letter. So I changed it to A4 (just to give it a try) and then back to U.S. Letter and then I pushed the make pdf button and I got the same thing (A4).

Yesterday I tried uploading that same pdf to a Walgreens print on line site to see how it would appear. The site recognized it as U.S. Letter. Therefore it must be a problem with Acrobat.

What makes you say it's a problem with Acrobat and not with Final Draft for producing something else than what it claims to?

I suggest you put the page size question on hold for now, and go back to your original concern. This is all about how it opens, how you see the page, right? What do you see? (How much, what zoom?).

I simply click the minus sign until the page can be seen entirely. I just tried to open the same doc with Adobe reader and it also displayed it as A4. Then I tried opening a Final Draft document created in 2016 and it was displayed correctly as U.S. Letter Size. What happened between 2016 and now I don't know.

Please go to Edit > Preferences in Acrobat Reader and click the Page Display tab.

On the top line is an entry ZOOM.

If you want to see the whole page, choose FIT PAGE.

If you want to see the width of the page only, choose FIT WIDTH.

Or try a percentage.

Some PDF files ignore these settings, but give it a try and let us know how you get on.

Ok, open a file and look in Acrobat PRO (not Reader) in File > Properties, then Open Options. What do you see?
