When I open a PDF it freezes up and I can't do anything with it. the only way to get it to close is to restart my computer. I have Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (32 bit). Don't know what track or version because I can't click on help. I have Windows 8.

There is only 32 bit version of Acrobat for Widnwos (P.S. There is actually now https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/download-64-bit-installer.html). If you wanna 64 bit go for MacOS version D:)

Listen, I understand that you may think very complicated pdfs do not exists... But they do. For example this pdf is very very slow. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=64743 It uses insane amount of sinf instructions, which is quite problematic even for modern CPUs.
