Phantom background dots when printing OCR'd documents

Hi all,

I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. I have searched for this peculiar query for a long time with no fruit.. hence this question; thanks for your time!

I have a scanned document. If I print it in its original form, it prints fine, but the text is not sharp as it is a scanned document. So all normal and as expected here.

In order to get the text sharper and also to get the file size down, I used the "Recognize Text" function. I then selected "Editable Text and Images". After the OCR process, the text on screen in the document appeared much sharper

However, when I then printed this document, although the text appeared sharper than before the OCR process, it has a peppering of lots of tiny dark dots all over the white background of the page. This only occurs when I print the OCR'd document. I have tried zooming in on screen and cannot see these dots. The dots extend the full length and breadth of the printed page, all the way to the edge of the printable area of the printer. The few millimeters of printer margin on all 4 sides are dot-free.

I am really struggling to get rid of this issue. Incidentally, when I select "Searchable Image" instead of "Editable Text and Images" in the "Recognize Text" options and then OCR the original document and then print, these dots do not appear. Maybe it has something to do with the "Editable Text and Images" option? Has anyone encountered this and a possible solution? I'd like to use the "Editable Text and Images" option if I can get it to print without these dots.

Thank you,

Scanning should be done well at the beginning and there are no miracle solutions.

I would like to ask you to post an example of the problematic files. May be, when looking at the file, someone can advise seriously. You can post a link to the file, but be sure not to post confidential information as this forum is public.

Thanks for the reply! The scanning is fine I think. If I just print the scan without any OCR, I do not get this film of dots all over it. It is something about the "Editable Text and Images" function that puts these tiny dots all over my document, when it is printed. When viewing on screen it appears fine. I will try scanning in a public document and see if I can replicate this. Thank you
