Is this hapening with every PDF that you try to use the Prepare Form tool after the most recent Acrobat update?

Or is it happening with just one particular PDF? If so, if this PDF was not produced with Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, can you provide more information about the producing software ?

Would you be able to share this file or an example of the file?

I don't generally create or edit files that are forms with input/editable
fields. This particular form was created by someone else, probably before
Adobe DC existed. We use it frequently by making a copy and updating it as
needed. I have always been able to use Prepare Form on the file and/or its
predecessors prior to the most recent Adobe update.

A copy of the file is attached. You are welcome to review the file, but
please do not post it on the forum.

Thanks,
Steve

Seems like you're trying to work around an XFA form that was produced with Adobe LiveCycle Designer.

You won't be able to use the prepare form tool with Adobe Acrobat Pro DC in order to edit this particular PDF. When this happens, usually the only way to go is to recreate the form form scratch usong Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.

If, on the other hand, you've been ysing Adobe Reader DC to view the file, and have both programs (Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Reader)  installed in the same computer, I would suggest to uninstall Reader.

From what I've read,  both of Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Reader use or share some of the same PDF processing libraries, modules, and plugins.

In particular, the AcroForm.api is used by both Acrobat and Reader, and as soon as you open a PDF document.

That said, I would suggest that if you have Adobe Reader installed in parallel with you Adobe Acrobat Pro siftware, to uninstall Adobe Reader completely.

You can also test by disabling Protected Mode at Startup from the Preferences settings in both programs.

And you can also try by manually disabling the Anti-virus software in your machine (just for troubleshooting purposes).

In addition you shoul manually force updates in both programs (if you haven't done so yet), or apply security fixes as describe in the Adobe Bulletin Advisories below:

Specifically this security advisory for your particular case:
