Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10.5
Suddenly I'm unable to print PDF documents from my MacBook. When I attempt to print, I get the error messages dialogs referenced in the title:
"The document could not be printed" "There were no pages selected to print"
The message is an obvious lie. I selected "all pages" to print.

You did not tell, how the document has been created or the version of Acrobat you use.
Some possible causes for this to happen:
Look also into other threads with the same problem, like Unable to print from Adobe. Says no pages selected .

The document was created with BridgeComposer https://bridgecomposer.com
The version of Acrobat lists the following:
Architecture: x86_64
Build: 18.11.20055.290043
AGM: 4.30.78
CoolType: 5.14.5
JP2K: 1.2.2.41223

Unfortunately that thread included only solutions for Windows.

The problem doesn't seem to be related to any individual PDF, I can't seem to print any PDF.

Try going to Preferences> Security (enhanced) enable enhanced security (off), then close & re-open Acrobat.
If that doesn't help, you could try printing as an image, but that will produce blurry type and is not a fix.

You are correct, this is a misleading and wrong error message. And, most of the workarounds are only applicable to Windows systems. You may want to read through the comments on my blog post to see if any of the other proposed solutions will work for you:

Unfortunately those security preferences are already disabled, and I'm not willing to print the file as an image.
I've seen the damage that Preview does to a PDF file, and sadly it's been my last resort for printing.

Print file as image is a work around, not a solution. It helps temporarily to print faulty PDF files or work around faulty RIPs. Nothing more, nothing less. It's worth a try.

I found a work-around. Open the document in Google Chrome. Click print from there. In the print dialog, click on "open PDF in preview". Then print.
