Redaction process rasterize the pdf document?

I've tried to redact a text block in my pdf file, but the process resulted in rasterization of the entire document. There is no more text, only an image of the page, not searchable nor copy/past-able. Is it the way the redact process is intended to works? There is a way to obtain a normal pdf only with redacted text permanently removed?

That is unusual, at least. What version of Acrobat Pro do you have (not "latest" please)? And does it happen if you make a new simple PDF from Word, to test?

I tried with two documents, generated by InDesign and (I suppose) MS Word. Now I have generated a new simple plain text pdf with InDesign, and actually the redaction works as expected. Perhaps in the pdfs that I had used there were elements that caused abnormal behavior. Invisible objects in background, maybe?  Thank you very much.
