Reduce PDF file size

Explorer ,
Jun 29, 2017 Jun 29, 2017

I have use Acrobat Pro DC to create fillable form, mainly I use "Adobe Ming Std Light" font. But pdf file size is very large arround 4.2MB. Already try optimized pdf, the file size did not change

In "PDF Optimizer" --> "Audit space usage", it show font size used 4.2M.
In "PDF Optimizer" --> "Fonts" it did not have any embedded fonts.

1. How to reduce files size?
2. Any tools/method can help to reduce size?
3. Need change to other fonts? but the fonts need supported English, Traditional chinese and Simplified chinese

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

The font you use for a form must be fully embedded in the PDF file. Asian language fonts are large due to the large number of characters that must by accommodated by such fonts and as a result, your PDF file is large. Due to the embedding requirement, Acrobat's file reduction and optimization capabilities will not un-embed such fonts.

Hi dmantse,

Sorry for the delay in response.

To check the fonts embedded, open the file in Acrobat> File > Properties > Security (tab). You can check the fonts embedded.

You may check the steps Optimizing PDFs in Adobe Acrobat Pro I assume you may have already exhausted.

If you try to use a different font does that make any difference? If you already have found a solution to this problem, you may update this thread with your findings and that will help other users.

Thanks for your reply.

I have find "Adobe Ming Std L" font embedded, but no ways to prevent or remove embedded font.

I have already try Optimizing PDF or change to another font but still failed. It seem it have embeded subset font cannot remove.

Some PDF I can use Acrobat 9 save once to reduce size but some PDF file cannot .

That mean no ways to reduce file size or prevent embedded font?

Any font not need embedded to pdf, also  supported English, Traditional chinese and Simplified chinese?

No, only a few Latin1 (English alphabet) fonts do not have to be embedded in forms.

… such as Times, Helvetica, and Courier (or their Arial, Times New Roman, and Courier New equivalents)!

Any reduction in the size of a PDF file that is primarily raster images (such as scanned fax) can be accomplished only by some combination of lowing the resolution of the images and the quality of the compression of the images. When you Save as optimized PDF you can specify the exact parameters for raster image recompression including downsampling, compression type, and compression quality.

Ultimately, the question comes down to how much degradation of quality are you willing to accept to reduce the size of the PDF file.

Bottom line is best solution either mail or fax forget pdf in these cases.

Its a legal file so degradation is not the best solution in my case.

This would more smaller non official documents.

Thanks for the speedy reply

What’s wrong with the PDF - unless you make the mistake of trying to email it? That should be avoided, big or small...
