Stop acrobat adding automatic bookmarks

I've searched everywhere for this but to no avail

I'm using Adobe acrobat standard XI

My problem is I use word to create a document and then pdf it creating my bookmarks which are perfect.

I then have a huge appendix to my document so I use the "combine pdf" which is nice because everything is collapsed. My issue is it adds bookmarks automatically and there is no way round this. I can turn off "Always add bookmarks to pdf" in the options but that just leaves the document blank.

There is no way round this it appears, even if I insert from the document it creates bookmarks all by itself

Is there a way to stop adobe just creating bookmarks all by itself!?
