When I attempt to redact text in certain PDF's, I am able to select the text to redact and apply the redaction, however, it not only leaves the black redaction over the selected text area, it also makes the rest of the document white (blank). So, I just end up with a black line on the page. It happens on documents that I have printed as a PDFs (i.e. emails) and I want to remove email addresses. I've tried to "recognize text" and it made no difference. Any suggestions on how I can get back to standard redaction? Thanks in advance.

Hi Drummerman,
Sorry for the delay in response.
I did receive your documents via the private message and was able to replicate the behavior on the document that you had shared.
As you have mentioned, you are using the "Save as PDF" option to create PDF.
Please use "Save as Adobe PDF" in the Print window to create PDF.
I have tried creating the PDF from MS Outlook email using the "Save as Adobe PDF" option in the print window.
Then I tried to redact the text on that PDF and it worked well.
I have also tried this workaround on the document that you shared with us..
- Open the PDF in Acrobat and click on Print icon.
- Select Adobe PDF from the list of printers and click on the Print tab in the Print window.
- Then try to redact text on that document.
Check if that works for you.
Hope the steps provided above will resolve the issue.
Let us know if you need any help.
Regards,
Meenakshi

Hi Drummerman,
As you have mentioned above, you have created PDF from emails by printing them as PDF.
Could you please confirm if you are using the Adobe PDF maker to create PDFs?
Please share the exact workflow you use to create PDF.
I have tried to replicate the behavior on our end. It works fine.
Could you please confirm the Adobe Acrobat version you are using to redact the text on PDF?
Are you using Mac or the Windows machine? What is the OS version?
Would it be possible for you to share the file with us? You can share it in a private message. How Do I Send Private Message

I create the PDF from the email program (MS Office - Outlook) and select “Print” - “Save as PDF”. I open the PDF in Acrobat Pro DC 2018.011.20063 and attempt to redact. I am able to select the text and apply the redaction, but the resulting PDF is a blank page with black redaction marks.
I was able to get it to work by exporting to JPG, opening in Preview, printing as PDF and going through redaction steps, but it does not select the text - I have to draw a box around the redaction. It also adds many more steps to the process because each page prints as a separate JPG.
Using Mac OS 10.10.5
I will send copies of document via private messenger.
