unable to enter password

I have a number of password protected .pdf. They used to open no problem. Since I did the big Windows update, I am unable to enter a password in the field. The reader does not recognize my typing. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Ideas?

When you say the reader, what program are you using to try and open these password protected PDFs?
