Hello,

Whenever open a pdf document, Acrobat DC opens in in "Tags" view that is not my favorite view, and I prefer to open any pdfs in the "Bookmarks" view (in condition those pdfs have bookmarks).

Select File > Properties > Initial View tab >  Navigation tab dropdown > Bookmarks Panel and Page and then save the PDF just works and apply to a pdf that we use the above path, not for all pdfs.

  1. After you set the File, Properties, Initial View tab method, see if  "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" needs to be enabled in "Edit" --->>> "Preferences" --->>> "Documents". Close Acrobat and load it up again. See if that view is retained with every other PDF.
  2. Or you can also goto "View" --->>> "Show/Hide" --->>> " "Navigation Panes" --->>> "Bookmarks"
  3. Or, if it is more convenient use the F4 key on your keyboard to open the navigation pane .
  4. If that doesn't work maybe there is a Registry setting (if using MS Windows) or Plist (macOS) that need to be modified.

However these last two suggestions and the first suggestion are not really necessary and don't answer your question.

Stick to suggestion #2. Just remeber to do it with a document that is opened. And when you're done, save the document and completely close the Adobe Acrobat application.

The next time you load up Acrobat amd open any document it should automatically display the navigation panel opened in Bookmarks if the document have bookmarks that are properly tagged.

If the document doesn't have bookmarks or they're not properly tagged the navigation pane will not open up automatically and the view may default to thumbnail view instead

Hi ls_rbls,

"Restore last view settings...." feature has already enabled. I opened some pdfs documents with bookmarks and some of them with no bookmarks. Then I found out, Acrobat open the "Bookmarks" panel for some documents that have bookmarks and don't show the "Bookmarks" panel for some documents that also have bookmarks! Why it shows for some and don't for others?

Also some documents open with the "Tags" panel. It's weird and confusing and I don't know why it happens.

I turned off the"Tags" panel, then I open a document, but the document open with the "Tags" view again and it automatically back while I disabled by unchecking!

Cool tip and I didn't know it! Thanks. It works for me who prefer the "Bookmarks" view/panel. But I guess there's wrong with Acrobat.

For the test, I pinned the "Pages" panel and open a pdf with some bookmarks. The pdf opened with the "Bookmarks" panel, not the "Pages" panel while I pinned the "Pages" panel before. The useful feature works for me who likes and comfortable with bookmarks, but if someone prefers another panel like the "Pages" and pinned it, don't guess it works for them, and Acrobat still opens "Bookmarks" panel.

Initial view / Navigation tab / set to "Bookmarks Panel and Page" and I pinned "Pages" panel, but still every pdfs open in "Bookmarks" view, not the "Page" panel! As I said, pin feature works for me now and as I see I always have bookmarks view thanks to the "Pin" feature, but if I or someone else want to have another view/panel other than the Bookmarks, Acrobat still prefers the Bookmarks panel.

I did it, but nothing has changed, and Acrobat open the "Bookmarks" panel, while I pinned the "Pages" panel and if someone likes to see and have the "Pages" panel, she/he needs to switch and click the "Pages" icon to open its panel; while she/he pinned the "Pages" or other panels before!. and also I don't understand the connection between "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" and the pinned panel in my issue about the prior panel?

May be something in the PDF file overrides this.
