Windows 8 Adobe Acrobat 8 won't install Adobe PDF printer

I have the disk that I purchased.  I cannot register it because it says I am not connected to the network or javascript isn't enabled but that is not true on either count, but my real problem is that it won't install the Adobe PDF Printer.  I have even tried to install it manually by going to devices, adding a local printer, selecting the Adobe PDF Printer local port, selecting the Adobe PDF converter and using the existing driver or replacing with a new driver since I have the disk and in both situations it tells me to double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network.  So what do I do?

The initial release of Acrobat 8 was not compatible with any version of Windows beyond 32-bit Windows XP. Although you could install it on later versions of Windows, the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance would not install due to changes in the operating system that made that component incompatible.

In updating Acrobat 8 to 8.1, the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance is properly installed on the newer versions of Windows (or at least Windows Vista and Windows 7).

Thus, if you can get Acrobat 8 installed, update it to 8.1 and the Adobe PDF driver might actually work.

Note that Acrobat 8 was released in November 2006, well over 10 years ago. Assuming that you can get it to install and updated to 8.1, you are still dealing with software that has been dramatically updated since that time by five full releases fixing many anomalies and security issues as well as operating system compatibility issues. Acrobat 8 does not integrate with any reasonably recent version of Microsoft Office. You should seriously consider an upgrade to Acrobat DC.

acrobat 8 isn't compatible with win 8.

you could try reinstalling with compatibility mode using win xp, but you should probably just leave well-enough alone.
