acrobate not default program to start

I recently downloaded the new Adobe reader, and now acrobat doesn't open my pdf files. I downloaded a newer version of acrobat, but it's still not the default.  what do I do?

Are you trying to view a PDF file in a browser? If so, which browser?

Or are you trying to view a PDF file that you have on your computer's hard drive?
