Can the content of pdf files be searched online?

On my website, I have an archive of old newsletters in pdf format. Is it possible for a "site search" of my website to render search results of the content of those newsletters?

I would think that this depends on the tool that your web site uses for searching, as well as if the PDF files are images (e.g., scans) or 'real' text.

Thanks for responding.

Not sure about the search tool, but the websites I have, for the most part, were created with Joomla and WordPress. The newsletters have some placed imagery, but for the most part are real text. I am prepared to place a paragraph summary with each pdf link, but the monthly newsletter archive goes back to June, 1992, so I am not thrilled about the summary thing but will if I have to.

We are using WordPress on a Go Daddy server having uploaded 250,000 digitized and OCR pages in various pdf files to our non-profit.org public site. We want members to be able to search the pdf files. What exactly do we need to buy or download to add to our Word Press server?

I will be ever so grateful for exact instruction on what to do next.

Unfortunately, I don't know, and since this forum is for issues with Workspaces, I suspect that others here won't know, either.

You would be better off finding a WordPress forum and posing your question there.
