Hi joe henry,

What are you using to open the JPEG in? Are you trying to convert it to PDF using Acrobat or Adobe PDF Pack?

Please tell me a bit more about the problem you're running into, and we'll do our best to get to the bottom of it.

Best,

Sara

Hi Joe,

For Reader to open a document, it needs to be saved as a PDF with a .PDF extension. It sounds like you may have the wrong filename extension on those files. JPEG is an image format, which you would be able to open with an image editing application, such as Photoshop.

So, please make sure that you're saving those files from your scanning software as PDF files, and that they have the correct, .pdf  filename extension.

Best,

Sara

Hi Joe,

Reader doesn't open files that are saved as .jpg or .bmp; it can only open files that are saved in .pdf format. But, I see that you have Adobe PDF Pack, so you can actually convert those JPEGs and BMPs to PDF format! Just log in to your account at https://cloud.acrobat.com using your Adobe ID and password. Click Create PDF, then click Select Files to Convert to PDF, and  navigate to the folder with your scanned images. Select one and click Choose. Your image file will be converted a PDF file, which you can open in Reader.

Best,

Sara

If your scanned JPEG files try to automatically open in Adobe Reader, then your file association for .jpg and .jpeg files is incorrect.  You need to assign it to your default imaging program instead of Adobe Reader.

That depends on your operating system, and what imaging programs you have installed - there are literally hundreds around.  It also depends what you want to do with these images when opened - just viewing, or editing.

Word also cannot open JPEG or other image files.

What is your operating system?  What imaging program(s) do you have installed?

If you did not install any imaging program yourself, then Windows Picture Viewer (or Windows Photo Viewer) comes with Windows 7.  It will let you view and print JPEG and many other image types.

If these scanned images are photos, then the Windows Photo Gallery may be a useful tool for you.

If it's a different kind of images, the free Paint.net is quite easy to use.

If you need a very powerful tool, then probably the best around is Adobe Photoshop; but of course it's not free.

See this article for some instructions how to edit with Windows Photo Gallery: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/photo-gallery-edit-photos-faq

I myself have never used it, so I can't give you more help with it.
