Thanks Pat, this solves the mystery.

For anyone else who has the same problem as me its not good news unfortunately. From using the help link from the previous post my understanding now is that my systems are not not compatible.

When I bought my laptop it came with acrobat 8, at a later stage I changed the operating system to be MS Office Home and Student 2010. This must have been the point the PDF Maker stopped working though I've only found this out now.

According to the help link above Word 2010

Hi rhodamcp,

I'm assuming you have both Acrobat and Reader installed, as the PDFMaker files aren't included with Adobe Reader. If you install Office after Acrobat, the PDFMaker files don't get installed. This is because the PDFMaker files must be put in a folder that does not exist until Office is installed. Please try repairing the Acrobat installation or reinstalling, and see if that clears up the problem.

Best,

Sara

HI Sara,

Thanks for your reply.

No I don't have Acrobat. So to be able to create a PDF from a word document I need to buy Acrobat?

Thanks

No, Word 2010 can do that without Acrobat.

Thanks Pat

My method of trying to convert the word document to a PDF is to right click on the document. This presents me with 2 options 1) Convert to Adobe PDF 2) Convert to Adobe PDF and Email

Both of these options generate the error message "Missing PDFMaker files"

I think I have used this option before though it would have been a long time ago.

According to the help link above Word 2010 is only compatible with Acrobat X and above. So the function to create a PDF from a word document will never work now. Gutted!
