Ok, Adobe Reader XI, Windows 7... a link in an email?

What exactly happens - any messages in full please?

Can you open http://www.adobe.com/enterprise/pdfs/managing_archiving.pdf (this is a PDF of no interest, but it is a test)?

How do you receive your email: in a browser (what browser), or with a dedicated email client like Outlook?

The link in that email, is it a http (or https) address?  When you click on that link, does it open a new browser window or tab?

I receive email thru chrome. I believe it is http & it does go to a new tab, then i get the message that says "failed to load pdf". Ok, it was suggested that I right click on the blue highlighted link and click save link as..when I do that it downloads and shows in the bottom left of the screen and I can open it. I do not understand why I can not open the link directly from the email.

Chrome uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin.

To change that see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

However, Google seems determined that in the near future only their own plugins will be allowed on Chrome...
