PDF to Word issue

I am trying to convert a PDF to Word in order to edit.  However, the downloaded version of word comes out full of symbols and unreadable sentences.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As Adobe Reader cannot export PDF page content to other file formats you'll be using one of Adobe's online service (ExportPDF or PDF Pack).

Do you know how the PDF that you converted was created? If a third-party app (not Acrobat) created it, the file might not be written well enough to ensure a clean conversion.

One thing you can try is disabling OCR as described in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (O... | Adobe Community.
