Scanned documents are pdf, but when i convert it to word, symbols are added and text is not correct

A document scans into pdf format.  When I convert the pdf into Word symbols are added and the text is not correct, why does this happen?

Hi Venuspi,

It is most likely when you convert those files into word. Fonts used to create those files originally might not be present on your machine.

Or the scan quality wasn't good enough for OCR to recognise the text in actual context.
