We just paid to upgrade to convert PDF's to word files and I reset password etc. and every time I try to log in with our user name and password to convert it says that an error has occurred.

Sorry to hear the inconvenience caused. 

Are you getting this login error while signing in on web or when using desktop application Adobe Reader DC? We have checked your account but couldn't find any active subscription registered to it.

You may try login in via web- https://cloud.acrobat.com/  using a different web browser and see if that helps.

Also, check once if you can login using the same credential on Adobe's official - Adobe: Creative, marketing and document management solutions
