i have to force quit the application as this wheel keeps spinning for over 15minutes

Is it you are using email function to send a pdf via Adobe Reader DC desktop application? Or you are working on Outlook itself and trying something else?

Or check if you have any pending update for both of the applications Adobe Reader and Outlook.
Open Adobe Reader>Help>Check for update
